What is a critical incident?
A critical incident is an event that occurs in a work or work
related setting. Critical incidents can include industrial accidents,
natural disasters, natural death (at or away form work), and workplace
violence. Broadly defined, a critical incident is almost any incident
by which the circumstances are so unusual or the sights and sounds so
distressing as to produce a high level of immediate or delayed
emotional reaction beyond the person's normal coping mechanisms.
